My practice is driven by an enquiry into forces which shape the physical world, specifically moments of interference or disruption, and how painting can register these changes, through vibration, tension and flow across a surface. Depicting the influences and connections between different forms of life. 

The work explores how we understand and relate to non-human forms of agency that challenge assumptions of anthropocentrism. What happens when we encounter something that is active but not human; can we relate to an entity whose agency is opaque to us? 

Repetition plays an important role in the paintings; returning to similar forms or movements allows patterns to surface, using oil paint and oil sticks to create rhythm and dimension without a predetermined outcome. Manipulating the surface through scraping and scratching with found objects, such as twigs and bark, I am increasingly attentive to how different surfaces resist or receive the mark, and how this resistance shapes both the image and my decision-making.
